growth

What do you want out of life?
I was asked this question this week and my first response was happiness.  Then I thought and thought some more... what does happiness look like to me... hmmm.
In my mind happiness looked a lot like easy-ness. A life of ease, no worries or stress.
But wait, that isn't what I want really. What I really want out of life is to be more like God, to come out of this world more stretched refined and closer to my savior. To love people unconditionally that is what I want at the end of the day...
So if I push the easy button that would mean no more kiddos cause crap they are hard work and no more pain cause dang it hurts etc etc.
So my answer actually is... GROWTH.

I read my friend Mary's blog the other day... this woman never ceases to inspire...

"My biggest dreams are: to have a great marriage, to be a mother, to grow a lot of my own food, to have a house that I can host amazing parties at, to be healthy and active into old age, to always grow spiritually, to travel the world, and to fall in love with the world's people. To kiss lots of babies, and love lots of children, whether they are mine or not, to maintain close relationships with my family and friends, and to stretch myself creatively and personally. The good stuff!"

I mean wow, right?!
When ever anyone ask me about my dreams I think of stuff like... get a masters degree yadda yadda worldly important things... yadda yadda.

Mary's first dream stood out to me. "To have a great marriage."
Think of what kind of world we would live in if more people had this for their biggest dream!!!
Think of how a relationship could grow if two people both woke up everyday mindful of this dream and willing to WORK for it?

Her dreams have nothing to do with money but more with people... which I love.

I hope to be the kind of person who embraces life, people and love.

Sometimes the future scares me. The growth I know I personally signed up for scares me.
Unstable childhood = An adult who doesn't enjoy the stable moments and waits for impending doom.
Having a husband in the military doesn't help either.
How can I raise a family with my husband overseas?! or what if my husband dies overseas....Yes, my worst fear.

But who wants to live life afraid?
Not me.

"The most powerful gift has been the peace granted by Heavenly Father as His Son has carried my sorrows and worries. Because of him I am free to love and enjoy (life)."
Ensign December 2010 pg.29

Christ has carried my burdens, the ones I have faced and the ones I will face. I am free to have peace and happiness in my life because of his gift.

PS-
On a funny note: Remember that sweet plant that inspired me so?
Husband left for 5 days...and....
I killed it.

Sophie I love this post! I do that same thing all the time letting my mind wander on the worst possible situations, & a little while ago I read a quote from Montaigne, that said, "if you fear suffering, you already suffer from what you fear." & it just really hit home for me. When you dwell on the negative I was already causing myself to suffer what I feared! Lol, anyways I think you are SO inspiring! I miss those days in the office :)

I loved this post, and the post that Mary did with that quote. It's funny how when my life is "easy" I am usually bored or kind of depressed. Amazing, huh?

Aww, thanks for the shout-out Soph! You inspire me all the time, and I am so glad we are re-connected now. I love what you wrote about not just signing up for the easy route. I am realizing lately the same thing, especially with my health situation. I am not sure if things will ever be easy! That is overwhelming at times. Sometimes, I daydream a little about what it would be like to have things be easy and to have all these things that would make my life a bit simpler. I love what you said about your main goal being to grow closer to God--how beautiful that is! I am realizing more and more that really, that He is the ONLY thing we can be sure of in this life. There are no guarantees and that is so humbling, and overwhelming. I like a little more control than that, haha! Anyway, I am writing a novel as usual :) but you are awesome Soph and I am excited to have a kindred spirit in you!

Regarding the plant. I used to kill plants and now I have two beautiful lava rock plants, strawberries and herbs. You can do it, you just have to want to do it LOL.

"Unstable childhood = An adult who doesn't enjoy the stable moments and waits for impending doom."
This is the best way I have ever seen the feeling explained.

You're amazing! Loves xoxo
